Hello RHC members,

Welcome to the 2026–27 Recreational Hockey Calgary season!

We’re excited to get another season underway, and in fact, we’re already underway. Sorting skates have started for our younger age groups, with the rest of the season's activities following shortly.

This marks RHC’s 25th season, so we have lots to celebrate this year.

You are likely receiving a bunch of e-mails from RHC now and in the coming weeks, but please read the following carefully as there is important information to share:

What’s Coming Up

We know everyone is anxious to find out their team, coach and schedule. We’re working behind the scenes to get everything ready, and you can expect more information shortly regarding team assignments and first ice times.

Important dates:

U13 / U15 Sorting Skates - already underway last weekend and again this coming weekend.

Head Coaches Meeting:  Sunday, September 20 at 6:00 pm at Max Bell Arena (Silver Room). This meeting is mandatory for all Head Coaches.

U13 / U15 All Coaches Development Session:  September 20 at 8:45 pm (Mandatory for all U13 and U15 Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches)

Coach equipment pick-up:  Currently planned for September 20, just prior to the Coaches Meeting. Head Coaches, please watch your email for details.

Team assignment announcements:  Week of September 20

First ice times:

  • U13: Sept 29th
  • U15:  Sept 28th
  • U18:  Oct 1st
  • Junior: Oct 3rd

Celebrating 25 Seasons

To recognize our 25th season, we’ve made a few changes. We’ve refreshed the RHC logos and ordered all-new reversible jerseys, with a light side and a dark side. Besides giving us a fresh look, this should make it much easier to tell the home and away teams apart.

Extra Development Opportunities

We’re offering additional development opportunities for our U13 and U15 players again this season.

  • "New to Hockey Program”: For our newer players to develop their skills and increase confidence.  Held on Sundays starting in early October
  • "Power Hour” Development Sessions:  Open to U13 and U15 players of all abilities who would like some extra development and ice time. One Sunday per month from October to January

Both programs are popular and can fill up quickly, so please register now through the RHC website. If you need assistance, please contact Cathy our Registrar who can help you out.

Referee Liaison Position

Our Referee Liaison position on the Board remains open. This is an important role to fill and we need to have a member step-forward to take it on this season.

If you are interested or would like to know more about what’s involved, please reach out to me directly.

Digital Game Sheets

Our game sheets are finally entering the new millenium by becoming electronic.  All Hockey Calgary associations, including RHC, are adopting the TeamLinkt Digital Game Sheet platform.  This will provide real-time game information to everyone including goals, penalties, time-remaining, and even shots-on-goal if the score keeper is so inclined.  The big benefit is the automatic submittal of the game sheets and no more chasing down the paper copies and manually uploading them into the Hockey Calgary system.

Like anything new, there will be a learning curve, so I encourage all coaches (Head and Assistants) to take the quick 20-minute on-line training webinar with live Q and A which is happening on Tuesdays through September and early October.  I've already done the training, and it looks pretty straightforward.

Cathy will forward the coaches the necessary training resources and your Age Group Coordinators will be there to support the transition.  But please take the training prior to your first game and if you have a Team Manager (and I hope every team will have one), then Coaches will pass on the training information to their managers.

That's it for now and I want to thank you all for being part of RHC. We’re looking forward to getting everyone back on the ice and celebrating 25 seasons of RHC together.

See you at the rink,

Ross Piche

President
