And We’re Off! RHC 2026–27 Season
Once again, RHC members, welcome to the 2026–27 RHC season.
The first ice times are happening this week and our 25th season is officially underway. After a busy few weeks getting teams, coaches, schedules and equipment organized, it’s great to finally get everyone on the ice.
A few reminders and updates as we get started.
Keeping RHC Recreational
One of the things that makes RHC different is our commitment to affordable hockey with a manageable time commitment. Our philosophy is approximately two ice times per week with no mandatory off-ice commitments.
Many families choose RHC because our fees are approximately half those of Community hockey, without the all the add-on costs (tournaments, travel, dry-land training, extra coaching, etc, etc,. Also, it's good to know that close to 10% of our players also require financial assistance to participate. That’s part of what RHC is about — making hockey accessible so everyone can play.
As a reminder, per the RHC Rules & Policies Manual, RHC does not allow team budgets or cash calls (RHC-44) or team apparel (RHC-45). RHC also does not permit exhibition games, and RHC jerseys and equipment cannot be used for additional-cost ice times or paid shinny/drop-in sessions outside of RHC arranged ice-times (RHC-47). Also, team bonding events are encouraged, but please keep affordability, inclusion and time commitments in mind. No player should feel left out because of cost. And if the cost of a team activity is a concern, parents are encouraged to speak confidentially with their Head Coach or Team Manager, if one is assigned.
Extra Development Opportunities – U13 & U15
Looking for a little extra ice time? RHC has two optional development opportunities available for our U13 and U15 players.
Our RHC-sponsored New to Hockey Program starts this Sunday at Frank McCool Arena and runs on Sundays throughout the fall. There are still a couple of spots remaining, so register quickly if your player would like to participate.
Also, our newly rebranded "Power Hour" is open to all U13 and U15 players or all abilities and experience and provides some extra development and ice time. Our next Power Hour is:
Sunday, October 25
12:30–1:45 pm
Village Square – Walley Kozak
Space is limited for both programs, so don't miss out.
Register for both programs via this link: Register for RHC Development Programs
Digital Game Sheets – Here We Go!
Digital game sheets are here. Cathy, our Registrar, has provided coaches with training materials and resources, so please review them and be ready for go-time this weekend.
Will there be a few bumps? Probably. But if we’ve done the training and apply a dose of patience, we’ll get through them. Change can be challenging, but later this season we may be wondering why we didn’t make the switch sooner. Digital Game Sheet Training & Resources are found here: https://www.hockeycalgary.ca/operations/teamlinkt-resources
Coaches Corner
- Hockey Calgary Coach Day: Hockey Calgary’s upcoming Coach Leadership Day on November 9 offers coaches an opportunity for additional learning and development. RHC will cover the cost for our coaches to attend. Contact Cathy, our Registrar, for more information and the RHC discount code. More information is available here: Hockey Calgary Coach Day
- RHC Coaching Philosophy, Expectations & Guidelines: This document has also been updated to align with Hockey Calgary requirements. The essentials were covered at our September 20 Head Coaches Kick-off Meeting, but all coaches are responsible for reviewing and implementing the requirements and expectations in the revised document. A link to the document is here: RHC Coaching Philosophy, Expectations & Guidelines
Concerns, Incidents & Feedback
This season we’re introducing a feedback and incident reporting process to help us better organize and route concerns and feedback within RHC. Rather than emailing individual Board members directly, parents, players and coaches should use the form on the RHC website as the starting point for concerns, incidents and feedback. For an immediate health, safety or wellness concern, please contact your Head Coach and the appropriate Age Group Coordinator or Board member right away.
A reminder as well that RHC will not overturn penalties, suspensions or ejections issued by on-ice officials.
See you at the rink!
Thank you to all of our coaches, volunteers, players and families for getting us to opening week. Here’s to a fun 25th season!
See you at the rink,
Ross Piche
